Marc Frazier didn't earn a win on the mound, but was the hero in the bottom of the ninth, notching a game winning walk-off single to lift the Nicholls State University baseball team over the University of Utah on Friday night at Ray E. Didier Field.
The Colonels (5-2-1) fell behind early in the series-opener, trailing 2-0 after three innings of play. The Utes (1-8) added two additional runs in the fifth to double their lead and seemingly take control of the ballgame, but Nicholls roared back.
In the bottom of the frame the Colonels scored three runs, taking advantage of two errors by Utah to pull within one.
Joey Morales reached on an error and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Justin Holt walked before
Christian Correa singled to drive in Morales. After a Frazier walk,
Kyle Reese reached on an error, allowing Holt to come home.
Tanner Vandevere walked to lead off the eighth inning. Morales singled through the left side, advancing Vandevere to second, but an errant throw on the play allowed Vandevere to score and tie the game.
In the bottom of the ninth Correa led off with a monster double that hit the centerfield wall.

Seth Stevens was intentionally walked, bringing Frazier to the plate. With two strikes, Frazier notched a single through the right side, sending Cobb home as the Colonels stormed the field.
Frazier tossed five innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits with five strikeouts.
Jason McDonald threw 1.2 innings in relief, allowing no runs and fanning two Ute batters.
Robbie Petty earned (1-0) the win throwing the final 2.1 scoreless innings and registered two strikeouts.
Bret Helton started on the mound for Utah, tossing six innings with three runs (none earned) and fanning nine Nicholls batters. In relief, Dylan Drachler allowed three hits and one unearned run with a strikeout. Duke Brock (0-2) took the loss, surrendering one earned run on two hits in the final inning.
Frazier led the Colonels at the plate, batting 3-for-4 with the game-winning RBI. Correa was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI in the ballgame.
Dallas Carroll went 1-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Utes offensively. Cody Scaggari hit 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Nicholls and Utah will square off in a Saturday doubleheader. Game two of the four-game series will begin at 3 p.m. with game three beginning approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game two. KTIB 640 AM will broadcast both contests.
