THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team took a 4-1 victory over the University of Utah on Sunday afternoon, coming away with a 3-1 series win over the weekend at Ray E. Didier Field.
 
The Colonels (7-3-1) drew first blood, taking a 2-0 lead in the second inning. A Seth Stevens triple scored Marc Frazier, before Gavin Wehby sent Stevens home with a double down the leftfield line.
 
The Utes (2-10) cut the Nicholls advantage in half in the fourth, when Wyler Smith singled to score AJ Young.
 
The Colonels added a security run in the fifth after a Frazier single sent Justin Holt in for the score. In the sixth, a Tanner Vandevere single to right brought Kyle Reese in for the final run of the ballgame.
 
Righty Justin Sinibaldi (2-1) had a dominant outing on the mound, tossing seven innings and allowing one run on five hits with five strikeouts. Stuart Holmes earned his second save in as many days and fifth save of the season, throwing the final two scoreless frames and fanning to Utah batters.
 
Nolan Strouder (0-2) took the loss, surrendering three runs on eight hits with four strikeouts on the afternoon.
 
Frazier led Nicholls offensively, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Frazier had a remarkable weekend, batting .533 with eight hits, four runs batted in, three runs scored and a home run. Stevens went 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.
 
Young paced the Utes with a 2-for-4 outing and a run. Wyler finished 1-for-3 with an RBI.
 
The Colonels will host Tulane at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, before hitting the road for a three-game series against Abilene Christian. Tuesday's contest will be broadcast live on KTIB 640 AM.
