STARKVILLE, Miss. – Sophomore
Partha Adavelly picked up a win over No. 97 Tassilo Schmid, but it would be the only point that the Colonels received on Saturday as No. 48 Mississippi State defeated Nicholls, 6-1, at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
Playing at No. 3, Adavelly went to the tiebreaker in the first set against Schmid and came away with a 7-6(4) victory. He then closed out the match with a 6-4 win in the second set.
In doubles play, Mississippi State (11-3) took the first set on Court 1 before Nicholls (1-7) picked up a win with
Evan Karatzas and
Sam Meessen coming out on top on the No. 3 court to even the match. However, Adavelly and
Lukas Clemens were defeated, 6-4, at No. 2, giving the Bulldogs the doubles point.
For the rest of singles, MSU won all five matches in straight sets. In the No. 6 match, Clemens fell in the first set to Robin Haden, 7-6(4), and battled in the second set in a 7-5 loss.
Nicholls will return to the courts at home on Monday, March 9, against USC-Upstate. First serve at the Colonel Tennis Complex is scheduled for 2 p.m.
