Sanders Garners Second Team All-Louisiana

BATON ROUGE, La. – Nicholls State University junior defensive back B.T. Sanders has been named Second Team All-Louisiana as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) announced Sunday its awards for the 2015 football season.

Sanders, who was also named Second Team by the Southland Conference, was the lone Colonel to make the prestigious all-state team. He is also the first Nicholls player to receive the honor since 2012.

A native of Foley, Ala., Sanders started all 11 games in the defensive backfield for the Colonels and finished second on the team in tackles with 75. Five of the stops came behind the line of scrimmage, including a sack against McNeese State. He forced three fumbles on the year and added a fumble recovery in the Colonels' near upset over Stephen F. Austin.

Sanders was instrumental in the Colonels' stingy pass defense, which led the Southland Conference at 178.2 yards allowed per game. At the safety position, he recorded four pass break ups as the defense surrendered just 14 touchdowns through the air this season.
