NATCHITOCHES, La. – After playing to a tie through 90 minutes of play, the Nicholls State University soccer team out shot Northwestern State in the two extra periods, 12-0, but the Colonels were unable to score as they tied the third-place Lady Demons, 0-0, in double OT Friday night at the Demon Soccer Complex.
With the tie, the Colonels hold the No. 5 spot in the Southland Conference tournament standings at 3-4-2, and are 6-6-2 on the season. Nicholls will play first place Central Arkansas (8-0-1) on Sunday 1 p.m.
After putting the heat on in the overtimes, the Colonels finished with a 22-12 shot advantage over NSU.
Jess Coates led the way with eight shots, with four on goal.
Hannah Savoie and
Emily Werenskiold delivered four shots each and
Haylee Atwell had three.
Taylor Mosley earned her second consecutive clean sheet, tallying five saves on the night. Her counterpart, Alex Latham, finished with eight saves.
