CONWAY, Ark.  – The Nicholls State University soccer team was unable to slow down first-place Central Arkansas as the Colonels were handed a 3-0 loss on Sunday at the Bill Stephens Complex.
 
The Bears (14-3-1, 9-0-1 SLC) held the Colonels to just five shots, while firing off 18 of their own. Two first-half goals gave UCA a comfortable lead before the Bears put the game away with one in the 65th minute.
 
Taylor Mosley tallied six saves in the loss as she saw her two-match shutout streak come to an end. UCA's keepers did not record a save after all five of the Colonels' shots were off target. Jess Coates had two of the attempts, with Haylee Atwell, Ali Ward and Mie Elvestad adding shot each.
 
UCA scored the first goal of the day in the 20th minute as Allie Coleman drove home a free kick for the 1-0 lead. Five minutes later, Ashley Smith scored her ninth goal of the season to make it 2-0.
 
In the second half, Coleman came through with another goal, this time scoring off a corner kick. The Bears had six corners in the match compared to zero for the Colonels.
 
With the loss, the Colonels slip to 6-7-2 overall and 3-5-2 in league play. Nicholls will close out the regular season on Friday at Southeastern Louisiana. The match is schedule to begin at 7 p.m.
