SAN ANTONIO, Texas –
Stephanie Tobison had 15 kills and
Kaci Eaton added 14, but it wasn't enough as the Nicholls State University volleyball team was defeated at UIW, 3-1 (25-18, 25-22, 21-25, 25-19).
The loss put Nicholls at 8-21 for the season and 3-10 in Southland play. UIW improved to 10-16 and 6-7.
After the Colonels fell behind 2-0, the defense that posted a dominant performance last weekend showed up again, holding the Cardinals to a .057 hitting percentage in the third set. Nicholls came away with a four-point victory, but UIW returned the favor by limiting the Red and Gray to a .021 clip in the decisive set four.
Tobison and Eaton were joined in double figures in kills by
Kali Schwartz, who registered 10 in the loss. Eaton led the attack with a .286 hitting percentage, finishing with just four errors on 35 swings.
Jade Piper directed the offense with 18 assists.
Defensively, Schwartz had her third straight double-double with a team-high 14 digs, and
Amari Bellard tacked on 13.
Nicholls will continue its road trip with a Saturday match at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
