THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University men's basketball team will look to extend its winning streak to three games as the Colonels take on the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns Thursday night at the Cajundome.
Tipoff for the contest is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio New Orleans 100.3 FM.
Nicholls (4-3) is coming off a thrilling 106-103 double overtime victory against Samford last Sunday, which saw the Colonels erase a 19-point deficit in the second half. The Red and Gray scorched the nets for a season-high 16 3-pointers, fueled by a career-best seven from
Lafayette Rutledge who finished with 27 points.
Ja'Dante' Frye led the team in scoring, tallying a career-high 33 points on 14-of-22 from the field and went on to be named Southland Conference Player of the Week.
Frye is second on the team in scoring at 14.7 points, with
DeAndre Harris coming off the bench for a team-high 15.3 points.
Jahvaughn Powell, who leads the team with 4.6 assists per game, and
Johnathan Bell are both averaging double figures in scoring as well at 11.3 and 13.4, respectively.
The Ragin' Cajuns (4-2) have won four straight contests after defeating Texas Southern in their last outing, 84-73. ULL features the 19th-rated scoring offense in the country at 87.2 points per game.
Louisiana-Lafayette is led in scoring by Frank Bartley with 19.0 ppg. Bartley is also the regaining player of the week after averaging 23 points and 2.5 steals per game in a pair of wins for ULL.
The Ragin' Cajuns hold a commanding 21-3 advantage in the all-time series and have won the last three. The last meeting came in 2011 where ULL defeated Nicholls, 84-57.
