Nicholls hosts Thomas University Sunday afternoon

THIBODAUX, La. – For only the second time this season, the Nicholls State University men's basketball team will play in Stopher Gym as the Colonels take on Thomas University at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 11.

The Colonels (4-5) have traveled over 9,000 miles in the first month of the season and will play in Thibodaux for the first time since Nov. 17. In the lone home game, Nicholls came away with a convincing 86-55 victory over Mississippi College.

Nicholls has lost its last two matchups, falling at Louisiana-Lafayette and Florida State. Before the setbacks, the Colonels were off to their best start since the 2010-11 season.

Despite the two-game skid, senior Ja'Dante' Frye has continued his strong senior campaign, which included a 20-point effort at Florida State.  Frye, who is second on the team in scoring at 15.3 points, is approaching the 1000-point milestone as he heads into Sunday's game with 958 career points.

Thomas, which plays at the NAIA Division II level, comes to Thibodaux with a 5-4 record and has lost its last three. The meeting with Nicholls will be the first of three consecutive exhibition games for the Night Hawks against NCAA Division I opponents. Thomas faced Georgia State earlier this season and was defeated, 111-69.

Javoris Cooks leads TU in scoring at 20.8 points per game. Cooks has accounted for over half of Thomas' 3-pointers, knocking down a total of 46 at a 40 percent clip.

Following Sunday's game, Nicholls will head west to face Texas Tech on Wednesday, Dec. 14. Tipoff in Lubbock is scheduled for 8 p.m.
