BATON ROUGE – The Nicholls State University football team added four more award winners as offensive lineman
Chandler Arceneaux, defensive lineman
Sully Laiche, linebacker
Allen Pittman and safety
B.T. Sanders were named to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) All-Louisiana Teams, the organization announced Saturday.
All four players duplicated their All-Southland recognition as Arceneaux and Laiche landed on first team, while Pittman and Sanders took home second-team honors.
Arceneaux, a redshirt sophomore from Bourg, anchored the right side of the offensive line for the Colonels, starting all 11 games this season. Nicholls allowed just 20 sacks on the year, which was its lowest total since the 2009 campaign.
Laiche, a native of Gramercy, proved to be one of the top linemen in the state as a true freshman after finishing with 60 tackles and 9.5 sacks. He racked up 13.0 tackles for loss, had three sacks in one game and added a blocked field goal that was returned for a touchdown. Along with his state and conference awards, Laiche was recognized as one of the best freshmen in the FCS as he finished sixth in the voting for the Jerry Rice Award.
Another rookie for the Colonels, Pittman, a redshirt freshman from St. Rose, led Nicholls in tackles (90) behind five games with 10 or more stops. Pittman put together the Southland's best individual performance this season with a 19-tackle game at Central Arkansas, where he also recorded one of his two fumble recoveries on the season.
A native of Foley, Alabama, Sanders saw his senior campaign cut short due to a knee injury, but his play did not go unnoticed as he earned his second second-team honor. A three-year starter in the defensive backfield, Sanders ranked fourth on the team in tackles (56), despite missing the last 3.5 games. He was named LSWA Defensive Player of the Week following his performance against FBS South Alabama where he had an interception, forced fumble and 13 tackles.
The LSWA team is selected by a panel of LSWA members based on nominations from the sports information and communications directors of the state's football player schools. The media relations representative from each school could vote, but could not vote for nominees from their own schools.
