TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – For the first time this season, the Nicholls State University men's basketball team will be showcased in front of a national television audience as the Colonels take on Florida State at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8 on ESPNU.
In addition to the television broadcast, the game is available online on WatchESPN and can be listened on ESPN Radio New Orleans 100.3 FM.
Florida State (8-1) is the second team from the Atlantic Coast Conference that Nicholls (4-4) will face this season, with the first being Boston College. The Colonels handed BC a 79-73 loss in the 2016-17 opener in head coach
Richie Riley's debut.
Riley has ties to the ACC, having coached at Clemson the previous two seasons before taking over the Colonel program. While with the Tigers as an assistant, Riley posted a 2-2 reco3d against the Seminoles, splitting each season series and falling once in the ACC Tournament. Clemson picked up a win in Tallahassee in 2015, 62-56.
DeAndre Harris leads the Colonels with 16.1 points per game after scoring 21 in the loss at Louisiana-Lafayette.
Ja'Dante' Frye is second on the team with 14.8 points, and is also second in field goal percentage (.522), trailing
Liam Thomas (.523). Thomas heads into the matchup ranked ninth in the NCAA in blocks with 3.4 per outing.
Florida State is coming off a convincing 98-49 victory over Southern Miss Tuesday night, aided by 14 3-pointers. The Seminoles have won four straight games since their 89-86 loss to Temple.
FSU is led in scoring by Dwayne Bacon and Jonathan Isaac, who are averaging 16.7 and 15.1 points, respectively. Bacon torched the Colonels for a game-high 23 points in last season's 109-62 win, which improved Florida State's all-time record against Nicholls to 3-0.
Following Thursday night's game, Nicholls will play just its second home game of the season, taking on Thomas University (Ga.) on Sunday at 4 p.m.
