STATESBORO, Ga. – The Nicholls State University men's tennis team started its three-match Georgia road trip on Friday and was handed losses by Jacksonville State, 4-3, and Georgia Southern, 4-1.
 
The Colonels lost the doubles point to Jacksonville State, but had a strong showing in singles play. Max Sinn and Oleksander Podgursky won in straight sets on the No. 3 and 4 courts, respectively, while Sam Meessen battled back from a first set loss at No. 5 to win 1-6, 6-1, 6-4. But the Colonels were unable to make up for the doubles point as the teams split singles play.
 
In the second match against Georgia Southern (6-3), the Colonels came away with the doubles point, but came up short in singles play. Bernard Wezeman and Meessen won on the No. 3 court, while Kieran Cronin and Podgursky edged out a 7-6 win on the No. 1 court to secure the point.
 
For singles play, GSU dominated by winning the first four matches in straight sets. With the team victory already decided, two of the singles matches went unfinished.
 
The Colonels will wrap up their road trip with a Saturday match against Armstrong State.
