THIBODAUX, La. – Coming off of a dominant outing against McNeese on Saturday, the Nicholls State University men's basketball team will look for a repeat performance as the squad hosts Incarnate Word at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
The Colonels (6-18, 2-8 SLC) played one of their most complete games of the season at home against the Cowboys, snapping the program's first seven-game Southland Conference skid since 2007. With only eight regular-season contests remaining, Nicholls hopes to make a strong push towards a potential Southland Conference Tournament run, but UIW stands in the way.
The Cardinals (12-8, 7-2 SLC) have won seven of their last eight games, and are coming off of a 74-71 victory over Lamar on Saturday. Incarnate Word's two losses in league play have come by a combined nine points.
The Colonels are 0-4 in the all-time series against the Cardinals. Incarnate Word downed Nicholls, 68-61, just over a week ago, on Jan. 30 in San Antonio.
T.J. Carpenter (12.9),
Ja'Dante' Frye (11.2) and
Liam Thomas are each averaging double-figures in conference action. L. Thomas leads the team in average rebounds (5.6) and blocks (3.6).
Schane Rillieux paces the squad with 3.8 assists per game against Southland opponents.
Kyle Hittle (14.4), Derail Green (13.8), Mitchell Badillo (12.6) and Jontrell Walker (10.8) are each averaging double-figures for the Cardinals in league play. Hittle grabs 6.4 boards and Badillo tosses 4.9 assists per contest, both team-highs.
Following Monday's game, the Colonels will make the short drive to Hammond for a matchup with Southeastern La. at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Nicholls will then have a week to prepare for a battle against conference-leading Stephen F. Austin at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20.
