THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team will host a pair of midweek battles against Louisiana opponents this week. The Colonels are set to face Tulane at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, before a date with Southern at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
Last season the Colonels (7-9, 1-2 SLC) went a combined 5-0 against No. 4 LSU, Louisiana-Lafayette and ULM, but were swept by Tulane, 2-0. Nicholls hopes to have a stronger performance this year against the Green Wave (11-5), who are 7-1 over their previous eight games.
Tulane has had a strong start to its 2016 season, but the Green Wave are 0-2 against Southland Conference opponents thus far. Tulane fell, 5-3, at Southeastern La. on March 2 and dropped a 10-9 decision at New Orleans on March 9.
The Green Wave owns a 59-24 edge in the all-time series against the Colonels. Tulane has won the previous five meetings, including a 5-0 victory on March 3 in Thibodaux and a 7-1 win on April 7 in New Orleans last season.
Kyle Reese leads Nicholls with a .435 batting average, 27 hits, 21 RBIs, four doubles and 12 runs.
Ethan Valdez has a team-high eight stolen bases and paces the squad with 14 runs scored.
Stephen Alemais leads the Green Wave with a .462 average. Jeremy Monalbano has a team high 16 RBIs, while Hunter Hope paces the squad with 16 runs. Jake Rogers is Tulane's top base runner, with a perfect 5-for-5 record on stolen bases this year.

France (0-0, 6.00 ERA, 14 SO, 9.0 IP) The Colonels host the Jaguars on Wednesday before heading to the Lone Star State for a three-game league series against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday.
