Live Stats - Game 1 | Game 2 | Game 3 THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University softball team will look to continue its strong start in league play as the Colonels head to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for a three-game series, starting Friday at 3 p.m. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 12 p.m.

Nicholls (16-12, 3-2 SLC) has yet to lose a Southland series in 2016, splitting its opening set at Stephen F. Austin before coming home to defeat Sam Houston State - two games to one. The Colonels tallied 14 hits in the win over the Bearkats to complete Sunday's doubleheader sweep.
In five conference games, the Colonels are batting .324 and averaging 4.0 runs per contest.
Danielle Phillips has a team-high seven hits, with
Alexis Huss right behind with six. Four other Colonels have five hits, led by
Kristen Ahearn who is 5 for 10 at the plate.
Ahearn heads the team with a .381 average for the season, playing in a total of 16 games. Freshman
Amanda Gianelloni has started all 28 games at shortstop, hitting .353 with a team-high eight doubles and 20 RBIs. Huss is at .345 and has four home runs, while also driving in 20.
The Colonel pitching staff continues to be carried by senior
Hannah Haydel and freshman
Megan Landry, who have combined to pitch over 93 percent of the team's total innings. Haydel's record stands at 8-6 after she took the loss at No. 7 LSU Wednesday night, despite allowing just one earned run on four hits. Haydel has the Southland's best ERA at 1.74 and she has fanned 74 batters on the year. Landry has tossed 74 innings in her inaugural campaign, posting an 8-5 record with a 2.36 ERA. In conference play, Haydel is 2-1 with a 2.27 ERA and has one save, while Landry has made two starts, going 1-1 with a 6.68 ERA.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (11-16, 1-5 SLC) heads into the matchup with a seven-game losing streak after being swept by McNeese State last weekend. The Islanders won their conference opener over Central Arkansas on March 12, but dropped the next two and were swept in a mid-week two-game series against Texas State. AMCC had a rough showing against McNeese, losing by a combined score of 27-1 in the three games.
The Islanders are hitting just .173 in conference play and are at .221 for the season. Dani Tefft leads the way with a .373 average, while Candace Hadd is hitting .301 with a team-high 11 RBIs. Hadd has six hits in Southland play for a .400 average.
In the circle, Liz Carter has logged 13 starts, posting a 7-7 mark with a 3.24 ERA. Carter leads the Southland with 99 strikeouts in 90.2 innings pitched and has two shutouts with a .214 opponent batting average.
Last season, the Islanders came to Thibodaux and took the series, 2-1. Nicholls fell in the opener, 4-0, but rallied in game two as Huss' two-run home run gave the Red and Gray a 12-11 walkoff victory. The Islander then took the rubber match, scoring twice in the seventh for an 8-6 win.
