THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team will host an in-state battle with Louisiana-Lafayette at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Ray E. Didier Field.
The matchup will be broadcast live on Cox Sports Television and can be viewed on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN App outside of CST's territory.
The Colonels (10-14, 2-7 SLC) will look to rebound from a 3-0 series loss at the hands of Sam Houston.
The Ragin' Cajuns (15-9) are coming off of a three-game series sweep against Georgia State and are 5-1 against Southland Conference opponents this season. Louisiana-Lafayette swept Sam Houston to open the year, before downing New Orleans. The Ragin' Cajuns suffered a 7-2 loss at McNeese, but defeated Northwestern State, 10-1, in Natchitoches.
Last season Nicholls swept its series against Louisiana-Lafayette for the first time since 1996. The Colonels picked up a 3-1 victory on March 25 in Lafayette, before earning a 5-4 walk-off win on May 12 in Thibodaux.
The Ragin' Cajuns own a 71-57-1 edge all-time against Nicholls.
Gavin Wehby leads the Colonel offense with a .342 average, 27 hits, 15 runs and 10 RBIs.
Ethan Valdez paces the squad with 16 runs scored and 10 stolen bases.
Joe Robbins spearheads Louisiana-Lafayette with a .337 average, 29 hits, 21 runs and 19 RBIs. Brenn Conrad has a team-high four stolen bases on the year.
Probable Pitching Rotation: Nicholls: LHP Mike Hanchar (0-3, 5.40 ERA, 17 SO, 20.0 IP) Louisiana-Lafayette: RHP Evan Guillory (1-3, 3.91 ERA, 18 SO, 25.1 IP) The Colonels will have an extremely quick turnaround, traveling to Biloxi, Miss. for a neutral site matchup against South Alabama at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Nicholls will then face an away-home-away series with Southeastern La., beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday in Hammond.
