THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team was set for a three-game series against Sacred Heart, beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, but inclement weather has forced the teams to meet sooner. In an attempt to avoid impending thunderstorms, the Colonels and Pioneers will open their series at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
Weather permitting, games two and three of the series will be played on Thursday and Friday at 6 p.m.
Nicholls (5-8, 1-2 SLC) is coming off of a disappointing 2-1 series loss at the hands of Southland Conference opponent Abilene Christian. The Colonels hope to get back on track against Sacred Heart.
The Pioneers (1-6) opened their season with a three-game series against Stephen F. Austin, before a two-game battle with Louisiana-Lafayette. Sacred Heart dropped all five contests and was outscored, 56-20, over that stretch. Despite a rough start, the Pioneers are coming off of a confidence-builder against Alcorn State, earning their first victory of the season, 16-3.
