THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University men's and women's cross country squads continue their seasons Saturday in the Mississippi College Invitational at the Choctaw Trails.
The women's 5K is scheduled to commence at 8:30 a.m. with the men's 8K immediately following at 9:15 a.m.
"The men and women are very prepared for this last race of our regular season after having six solid weeks of training together as a team," said Nicholls head cross country coach
Stefanie Slekis. "The three workouts we have done since McNeese were the best we've run all season for everyone; which has everyone pretty excited to race hard tomorrow. The women have a final opportunity to run a 5K before we move up to 6K so we're looking to race more aggressively than we have the past three meets. This will give us a better indication of where each runner should go out at the conference meet in two weeks. The men have a great opportunity to test their fitness over the conference distance, and this will be the first 8K race for JP, Trey, and Tristan, our current top-three runners."
The two squads most recently ran at the McNeese Cowboy Stampede where eight student-athletes set personal records, including
Lucija Barac,
Taylor Douglas and
Courtney Troxclair and all five men –
Tristan Breaux,
Daryl Cooper,
Teril Cooper,
Trey Lowery and
John Paul Spera.
Senior
Hannah Naquin, who has fronted the pack in all three events this season, is looking to build off of her personal-best 19:19 at the LSU Invitational 5K on Sept. 16.
