Villanova Game Notes
PHILADELPHIA – The Nicholls State University basketball squad held practice at Tom Gola Arena on Monday in preparation for Tuesday's 5:30 p.m. (CT) contest against No. 5 Villanova at the Wells Fargo Center.
The game will be nationally televised on FS1 with Rich Ackerman on the call and Donny Marshall providing color analysis. Fans can also listen live to the Voice of the Colonels,
Bryant Johnson, on ESPN 100.3 FM.
The Colonels (1-0) are coming off of their highest scoring output since Nov. 27, 1996 in a 111-106 comeback victory over the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Nicholls trailed by as much as 12 in the second half before storming back with an 11-0 run sparked by four consecutive layups from senior guard
Roddy Peters.
The Colonels' offense was lifted by senior guard
Lafayette Rutledge's 23 points on a 7-of-11 shooting effort from beyond the arc. Peters and fellow senior guard
Tevon Saddler posted 19 points apiece, and senior guard
Jahvaughn Powell added 18. Senior center
Legend Robertin (eight points, nine boards) and senior forward
Maurice O'Field (nine points, seven rebounds) neared double-doubles in the win.
The Wildcats (1-0) topped Columbia 75-60 in their opener behind 15 points and nine rebounds from Eric Paschall and a double-double (11 points, 11 rebounds) from Omari Spellman. Villanova's roster features Jalen Brunson, a premier point guard who was a preseason All-American and the Big East's choice for Player of the Year.
