THIBODAUX, La. – Right before a four-game home stretch, the Nicholls State University men's basketball squad will head to the Battle 4 Atlantis Mainland Tournament, hosted by UMBC at RAC Arena, for a contest against Presbyterian College on Thursday and either Chicago State or UMBC on Friday.
Tipoff against the Blue Hose is slated for 1 p.m. CT. The winners and losers of the first two games will battle on Friday.
Nicholls boasts the top-scoring offense in the Southland and fifth-highest in Division I at 100.3 points per game. The Colonels also knock down 12.5 treys per game, which ranks seventh in the country.
That prolific offense is fronted by senior guard Roddy Peters, who converted Nicholls' first double-double of the season against WKU with 34 points and 12 boards. The Washington D.C. native has scored 22.5 points per game, which is good for second in the league behind UCA's Jordan Howard (26.8).
Fellow senior guard Tevon Saddler sits second on the team with 17.0 points per contest. Hailing from Aberdeen, Maryland, Saddler has scored in double figures in every game this season. The duo also sits 1-2 in rebounds with Peters spearheading the two at 6.0 per game.
The Colonels have three long-distance threats in seniors Lafayette Rutledge and Jahvaughn Powell and junior Zaquavian Smith. All three student-athletes have converted 10-plus 3-pointers this season.
Presbyterian (1-4) has faced a challenging schedule thus far, falling to North Carolina State and Tennessee. Its lone win came in its home-opener against Johnson College, a 107-87 victory. Reggie Dillard has contributed a team-high 15.6 points per game, but Presbyterian's floor general is Davon Bell (15.4 ppg, 3.0 apg).
