SAN ANTONIO –
The Nicholls State University women's basketball team goes for its fourth road win of the season with a Saturday afternoon matchup at UIW. Tipoff in the McDermott Center is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Nicholls (6-6, 1-0 SLC) won its season opener Thursday at Northwestern State, 79-63, and will be searching for its first 2-0 start in league play since 2014. UIW is coming off a home loss to McNeese, 66-57.

With three wins on the road already this season, Nicholls has matched its away victory total from its previous two campaigns. The Colonels posted a 3-13 road record last year and were 3-9 in 2015-16. This season, Nicholls is 3-3 with the three losses coming at SMU, LSU and Iowa State.

The early success away from home is vital as the Colonels start with five of their first seven league games on the road. Following next week's home contest with Stephen F. Austin, Nicholls is back on the road at HBU and McNeese.

A significant factor in the Colonels' win at NSU Thursday night was free-throw shooting. Nicholls connected on 29 of 35 at the charity stripe, led by a 13-for-14 effort from junior guard Cassidy Barrios. After being held to single digits in scoring in the last two games, Barrios netted a game-high 23 points and added 13 rebounds for her fifth double-double.

UIW heads into the matchup with a 1-11 overall record, but their schedule has been loaded. The Cardinals played just one non-Division I team and has losses to Oklahoma State, Utah, Rice and Texas Tech.

The Cardinals are led by last season's SLC Freshman of the Year, Imani Robinson. In her sophomore campaign, Robinson is averaging 10.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, and nearly two steals.

Nicholls leads the brief all-time series, 4-3, but has lost the last three. The Cardinals swept the series last year, including a late rally on their Senior Day for a 69-63 victory.
