THIBODAUX, La. – Gavin Wehby drove in all four runs for the Nicholls State University baseball team and the Colonel bullpen was able to hold off a late rally by Brown to earn a 4-3 victory Saturday night at Ray E. Didier Field.
 
The victory clinched a series victory for the Colonels against Brown, with the game 3 finale scheduled for Sunday at 11 a.m.
 
Wehby finished 2-for-3 at the plate, and was joined by Alex Tucker with two hits. The Colonels (6-5) were down 2-0 after the top of the fourth before Wehby drove in two runs with a clutch two-out single. Walks to Chet Niehaus and Joey Morales put two on and following a double steal, Wehby smacked a base hit through the right side to even the score at 2-all.
 
In the sixth, Nicholls took the lead after another two-out rally. Pinch hitter Gage Teer singled and Tucker followed with a base hit. Wehby then hit a fly ball down the left field line that landed just inside the line, allowing two runs to score for a 4-2 lead.
 
Alex Ernestine (1-0) was cruising after 4.0 innings of relief, but issued back-to-back walks with two down in the ninth. The next batter, Mark Sluys, found a gap through the left single to make it a one-run game.
 
With runners on first and second, Adam Tarver came into the game to close it out and forced a fly ball to earn his second save of the season.
 
Ernestine struck out eight out of the bullpen and allowed just two hits. Cayden Hatcher lasted 4.2 innings in the start, surrendering two earned runs on five hits and struck out five.
 
Reid Anderson took the loss for Brown (0-2), allowing four earned runs on six hits. Sluys led the offense with a 2-for-4 day.
