THIBODAUX, La. – Winners of five of the last seven games, the Nicholls State University baseball program hopes to continue that trend when it faces the University of New Orleans this Friday, Saturday and Sunday in a split series.
Games 1 and 3 will take place at Ray E. Didier field and game 2 at Maestri Field. Friday's contest will honor the Colonels eight seniors in a pregame ceremony beginning at 6:45 p.m.

COLONEL STORYLINES
Nicholls (26-24, 12-12 SLC) and UNO Â (24-23-1, 12-12 SLC) are in a three-way tie for seventh with Lamar in the league standings with two conference series left to play. Both teams took two out of three against the Cardinals. The top-eight schools based on conference record qualify for the SLC tournament. The tie-breaker procedures are explained here.
The Colonels took their most recent series over Stephen F. Austin this past weekend behind a 15-run showing Friday and a gutsy 3-1 victory Sunday. Nicholls boasts a 20-8 record at the Did this season which includes a sweep over Houston Baptist and series victories over Incarnate Word and SFA.
Friday starter Cole Stapler (6-5) has notched three quality starts in his last four outings. Sophomore reliever Adam Tarver earned his eighth save of the season versus Jackson State. That mark ranks second in the conference.
Senior catcher Alex Tucker has thrown out 23 base stealers this season, the league's most.
THE OPPONENT
The Privateers are similarly 4-2 in their last six conference games. Â UNO's pitching duo of Shawn Semple and Bryan Warzek rank second and fifth, respectively, in strikeouts in the Southland. The Privateers rely heavily on the longball, hitting 0.92 homers per game which ranks second in the league.
