THIBODAUX, La. – Following its first league home game, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team is back on the road for the next two contests, starting Saturday, Jan. 6 against HBU. Tipoff in Houston at Sharp Gym is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Nicholls (6-8, 1-2 SLC) has dropped its last two games after starting Southland play with a win at Northwestern State. In Wednesday's matchup with Stephen F. Austin, which is one of four teams without a league loss, the Colonels rallied in the third quarter to trim an 18-point deficit to one but were unable to take the lead.
Sophomore 
Tykeria Williams continued her assault from 3-point range, knocking down four en route to a team-high 18 points. Williams enters the matchup with HBU (4-8, 0-2) ranked fourth in the Southland with 2.6 made 3-pointers per game.
The Colonels shot 50 percent from long range, matching their season high, finishing with nine 3-pointers. Senior 
Tia Charles had three and finished with 15 points, and 
Cassidy Barrios and 
Paige Williams each had one. Barrios, who leads the Colonels with 14.7 points and 9.3 rebounds, nearly recorded a triple-double against the Ladyjacks as she ended the night with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists.
HBU is searching for its first conference win after dropping contests to Lamar and New Orleans. The Huskies lost both games by 18 points, including a loss at home in their opener against Lamar.
Amanda Johnson has been the top player for HBU, averaging 15.4 points and 5.8 rebounds. In the last game against New Orleans, Johnson was one of three Huskies to score in double figures finishing with 10 points. Lauren Calver (7.4 ppg) led HBU in the game with 19 points on 9-of-15 shooting.
The Colonels lead the all-time series, 3-2. Last season in Thibodaux, the 76-57 victory over HBU gave head coach 
DoBee Plaisance her 99th victory at Nicholls. Barrios scored 16 points in the win and added seven rebounds and three assists.
