Colonels and McNeese set for Wednesday night tilt

THIBODAUX, La.  – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team will look to snap a three-game skid in the series against McNeese as the Colonels and Cowgirls square off Wednesday night in Lake Charles. Tipoff in Burton Coliseum is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

A live video stream and live stats will be available on McNeeseSports.com.

Nicholls (7-8, 2-2 SLC) has already picked up two wins on the road in league play and will look to win in Lake Charles after dropping the last two meetings in Burton. Before the 2016 season, the Colonels put together three consecutive wins on the road in the series.

Nicholls rallied from an 11-point deficit last weekend at HBU to even its conference record. Junior guard Cassidy Barrios led the way with 24 points and a career-high 20 rebounds and was honored by the Southland Conference for the second time this season, being named player of the week. Tykeria Williams also scored in double figures, finishing with 15 points.

Barrios and Williams have been the Colonels' leading scorers all season and both rank in the top 10 in the Southland in scoring. Barrios is fifth in the league with 15.3 points per game and ranks second in rebounding with an even 10 per outing. Williams is eighth in scoring at 13.2 ppg while ranking fourth in 3-pointers per game (2.5) and seventh in percentage (.368).

Defensively, ranks sixth in the Southland in points allowed at 66.8. The Colonels have lost only twice this season when allowing 65 or fewer points – at LSU and at UIW. Nicholls ranks third in the Southland in steals, averaging 11.5 per game. The defense accounted for 11 steals in the win at HBU.

McNeese (6-9, 2-2 SLC) is coming off back-to-back home losses last week against Abilene Christian and New Orleans. After falling by five points to ACU, the Cowgirls suffered a double-digit loss on their own floor against the Privateers, 77-64.

The Cowgirls have three players averaging over nine points. Caitlin Davis heads the trio with 11.2 ppg and is followed by Keara Hudnall (10.9) and Dede Sheppard (9.9). As a team, McNeese is averaging 65.1 points.

McNeese has been relentless on the offensive glass, ranking second in the Southland with 17.2 offensive rebounds per game. In last season's win over the Colonels in the SLC tournament, the Cowgirls snagged 23 offensive boards and had a 61-23 advantage overall.

The Cowgirls lead the all-time series, 56-19. Seven of the Colonels wins have come since 2013, including five straight victories.
