CHOUDRANT, La. – Senior
Baker Stevenson shot a 2-under 70 in the first round to lead the Nicholls State University men's golf team in its opening day of the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate, held at the Squire Creek Golf Course.
Stevenson followed up with a 73 in the second 18 as he tied for 11th at 1-under with a 143. He totaled three birdies and did not have a bogey until his final nine holes of the day.
Senior
Jack Lee also finished in the top 25 after Day 1, shooting a 146 after a pair of 73s. He led Nicholls on the day with seven birdies.
As a squad, the Colonels carded a 299 and 306 (605) and placed last out of 15 teams. Nicholls is just two strokes behind New Orleans and Stephen F. Austin, and six back of Southern Miss. UAB led the field with a -20 (556).
For the rest of the Colonel lineup,
Warut Wongrungroj posted a 79-77--156, followed by
Connor Campbell (77-83--160) and
Zachary Barrios (83-89--172).

Due to weather conditions Tuesday morning, the final 18 holes were canceled.

The Colonels wrap up their 2018 schedule with the Pinetree Intercollegiate, hosted by Kennesaw State in Georgia. Tee off is scheduled for Monday (Oct. 22) morning.
