Â
"Both our men's and women's teams have made tremendous progress this season so I am very excited to see how well our young teams can compete at their first Southland Conference Championship," Nicholls head cross country coach
Stefanie Slekis said. "Only two of our 11 competitors have raced at a Southland Conference Championship before.
Eleana Callejas ran very well as a freshman last year so I am looking forward to our freshmen following in that tradition and having breakout performances on Friday. All of our training has been geared toward running our very best this weekend and again in two weeks at the NCAA South Central Regional. I am expecting substantial improvement for our 1-5 runners from the pre-conference meet we raced at McNeese a month ago."
Â

nd) came on a 22:36.7 4-mile at this course.
Â
The women's squad placed 12
th at last season's SLC Championships, fronted by Callejas (24:16.5) who finished 64
th overall. Abilene Christian took home the women's team title for the second time in three years, totaling 44 points and posting the race's top three finishers. Alexandria Hackett claimed the individual title.
