THIBODAUX, La. – Playing at home for the first time in 22 days, the Nicholls State University men's basketball team will battle Spring Hill College Wednesday at 7 p.m. inside Stopher Gym.
The Colonels (4-4) are coming off back-to-back victories to claim a fifth-place finish at the Emerald Coast Classic. Nicholls first defeated North Carolina Central, 77-63, on Friday before eking out a 62-61 overtime-thrilling win against Western Michigan.
Graduate transfer
Jeremiah Jefferson and sophomore
Kevin Johnson spearheaded the Colonels in scoring with 22 and 20 points, respectively, against the Falcons. Fellow graduate transfer
Gavin Peppers dropped 18 points on the Broncos, including the final two layups to seal the victory in extra time.
Nicholls topped WMU despite Jefferson, the team's leading scorer at 16 points per game, not earning a bucket.
The Colonels remain a threat from long range, draining a league-leading 9.8 triples per game. Jefferson ranks atop the Southland with three makes per game. Nicholls has received steady play from Johnson, who ranks third in the conference with a 3:1 assist-to-turnover ratio. Senior
Daniel Regis has recorded multiple blocks in every game, sitting 20th in Division I with 2.6 swats per game.
The Badgers (2-4) are on a two-game skid, dropping battles to West Florida (79-69) and Auburn University Montgomery (72-58). Quinn Sutton (13) and Gresyn Rogers (10) have converted the team's most treys on a squad that ranks first in the SIAC in threes per game (9.7).
