THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team will look to continue its winning streak as the Colonels host the SUNO Lady Knights for Kids Day Wednesday morning at 11:30 a.m. at Stopher Gymnasium.
Live stats for the game are available here, and the contest will be streamed on YouTube.
Nicholls (2-4) picked up its first two wins of the season over the weekend by sweeping the UTEP Thanksgiving Classic in El Paso, Texas. The Colonels came out on top in a pair of thrillers in the Lone Star state, defeating UTEP 58-56 before knocking off Texas Southern, 58-57. Cassidy Barrios led the way by averaging 16.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 7.0 assists in the two games, but Airi Hamilton and Bree Wilson also turned in double-figure scoring efforts.
On the season, Barrios is 34th in the nation in scoring at 20.4 points per game after reaching the 20-point plateau in her first five games. She is averaging a double-double with 10.4 rebounds, which is 44th best in the NCAA.
In the two victories, the difference turned out to be free throw shooting. The Colonels, who lead the Southland with a 75.8 percentage, connected on 16 of 20 at the line, while their counterparts made only 12 of 32. Barrios leads the team at 93.8 percent (30 of 32).
SUNO, which competes at the NAIA level, is 3-8 on the season and has lost its last five games. They earned wins over Jarvis Christian twice, and Selma. Their previous loss was Monday at LSU-Alexandria, 65-57.
Andriel Moss has been the Lady Knights' top scorer, averaging 14.8 points per game. Kira Mercado is also averaging double figures at 11.3.
