THIBODAUX, La. – Looking to repeat last season's success, the Nicholls State University men's basketball squad opens the 2018-19 season Tuesday against Mississippi College at Stopher Gym. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The game will be streamed by ESPN New Orleans 100.3 FM.
Nicholls returns three student-athletes, senior
Daniel Regis and sophomores
Kevin Johnson and
Ryghe Lyons, from last year's team, a group that claimed a share of the Southland Conference regular-season title. Johnson and Lyons were both fixtures in the starting lineup by season's end and Regis played a key role off the bench. Head Coach
Austin Claunch enters the season as the youngest coach in Division I men's basketball.
The Colonels roster also consists of graduate transfers
Jeremiah Jefferson (Jackson State) and
Gavin Peppers (Central Michigan); transfers
Thomas Clement (Clarendon College),
Danny Garrick (Central Arizona),
Elvis Harvey (Garden City Community College) and
Brandon Moore Jr. (Bossier Parish Community College); sophomore
Jeremiah Buford, and freshmen
Abdul Alatishe and
Trent Schiller.
Nico Clareth (Siena),
D'Angelo Hunter (West Virginia) and
Dexter McClanahan (Savannah State) are also on the team but will sit out this season due to transfer rules.
Nicholls returns 26.3 percent of minutes from last season, the 11th-fewest in Division I. The Colonels are also one of 10 schools in the nation with three or fewer letterwinners returning.
The Choctaws return two of their top-three scorers in Donovan Ham (14.7 ppg) and Brandon Boston (14.6 ppg). The Red and Gray faced off with MC in 2016, winning 86-55 in Thibodaux. Get your season or single-game tickets now by calling
