THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team produced two home runs but dropped a 5-4 decision to Stony Brook University Saturday night at Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field.
The game-winning run came across in the top of the ninth inning on an RBI single by Michael Palazzolo. That knock through the left side came after solo homers from seniors
Kyle Knauth and
Chet Niehaus in the seventh and eighth, respectively, tied the game at four.
The Colonels (0-2) used five pitchers with junior
Parker White getting his first career start in the Red and Grey. He tossed 4.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits and two walks. Nicholls received two perfect innings from senior pitcher
Christian Bahlinger who recorded three strikeouts. Redshirt sophomore
Austin Bollinger was the tough-luck loser after he walked the go-ahead runner to commence the ninth.
Seven different Colonels contributed to the squad's eight hits. Niehaus fronted the team as he went 2-for-3.
Seawolves (2-0) reliever Aaron Glickstein was the winning pitcher and Aaron Pinto earned his second save in as many contests. In the series Pinto has allowed one hit in 2.2 innings of work.
Nicholls returns to the Did on Sunday for Game 3 against SBU. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
