No. 21 Tulane tops Colonels

MATCH RESULTS

NEW ORLEANS –
The Nicholls State University tennis program took on another ranked in-state opponent on Sunday as the men's squad was handed a 7-0 loss to No. 21 Tulane at the City Park Tennis Center.

On Saturday, the women's team suffered a 6-1 defeat to No. 23 LSU.

"It's a great opportunity as a program to play against this level of competition. It teaches us responsibility, accountability, and pushes us to be better players. We look forward to playing these teams in the future and raising the bar so we can compete at the highest level as we can in our conference," said Greg Harkins, Nicholls Tennis head coach. "I was proud of our teams and their effort. We started a little slow, but once we settled down and got used to the pace, we played pretty respectably. It was a learning experience for both teams that will help us down the road."

Tulane made quick work in doubles play, winning courts No. 1 and 2 for a 1-0 advantage. The same looked to be on tap in singles, but after being held to one point in five of the six first sets, Nicholls put up a fight for the rest of the match.

On the No. 5 court, Lewis Cox took Tim Ruetzel to extra points before falling 7-6 (8-6). Tobias Lentz scored four points in his second set at No. 3, and Oleksander Podgursky battled No. 103 Ewan Moore to a 6-1, 6-3 loss.
