Final Stats CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Nicholls State University baseball team dropped a 12-1 decision Friday night to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in its opener of the 2018 Kleberg Bank College Classic at Whataburger Field.
The Colonels (1-4) managed seven hits from seven different student-athletes, highlighted by a solo homer from sophomore catcher
Dillon Belle during a pinch-hit appearance in the ninth inning. Senior lefty
Alex Ernestine was tagged with the loss, allowing seven earned runs on nine hits in 2.1 innings. Junior
Jacob Bedevian tossed 4.1 solid innings, giving up just one earned run on four hits while striking out three.
The Islanders (4-1) amassed 16 hits, including three apiece from leadoff hitter Luke Marbach and first baseman Harrison Dinicola. Corpus Christi scored 10 runs between the second, third and fourth innings. Dustin Lacaze was masterful on the mound, throwing eight scoreless innings before giving up the homer to Belle. He gave up seven hits and struck out eight.
Nicholls looks to bounce back Saturday against No. 21 Mississippi State. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
