Colonels drop two matches in Alabama

RESULTS vs. JACKSONVILLE STATE   |   vs. ALABAMA STATE

THIBODAUX, La. –
The Nicholls State University men's tennis team played a pair of matches in Alabama over the weekend and came up short, falling 4-0 to Jacksonville State Saturday and 4-3 against Alabama State on Sunday.

"We played some of our best doubles against Alabama State and had tremendous efforts by Tobias Lentz and Lewis Cox in singles," said Greg Harkins, Nicholls tennis head coach. "In the end, it wasn't the result we were hoping for, but we'll have some time off and continue to get better."

The Colonels jumped out to a 1-0 lead over Alabama State with wins on the No. 1 and 2 courts in doubles.  Lentz and Oleksander Podgursky won at the No. 1 line, 6-4, and Cox/Nestor Giribet Lopez closed it out with a 7-6 win at No. 2.

In singles play, Lentz fought back from a 6-2 loss in the opening set with a pair of 6-4 victories over Carl-Louis Luckmann at No. 2. Cox also won in three sets, dominating in the third with a 10-1 win.

Alabama State (4-8) won three of its matches in straight sets. On the No. 4 court, Eduardo Marion won the first set against Alexis Collard but went on to fall 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Jacksonville State proved to be too much on Saturday and improved its record to 10-1. They won both completed sets in doubles, 6-4, before going on to claim three straight-set victories in singles.
