NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Nicholls State University baseball team rides a three-game winning streak into a three-game series against Stephen F. Austin this weekend at Jaycees Field. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
The games on Saturday and Sunday are tentatively set to begin at 2 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
The Colonels (20-26, 9-12 SLC) used homers by seniors
Lee Clark,
Kyle Knauth and
Joey Morales to roll past Prairie View A&M, 17-8. That victory came on the heels of back-to-back wins over Lamar at Didier Field, outscoring the Cardinals 11-3 in the final two contests.
Morales is batting a team-high .398 in league play while Clark has mashed the most extra-base hits at 12, eight doubles, two triples and two homers.
Graduate student
Christian Bahlinger has made 28 pitching appearances this season, two short of the Division I leader, North Carolina A&T's Josh Bottenfield. During his 12 outings in April, Bahlinger posted a 1-0 record with five saves and a 0.81 ERA.
The Lumberjacks (14-29, 6-15 SLC) sit in 12
th place in the league standings, dropping seven of their previous eight games. Considering conference games, SFA is batting .260 with a team ERA of 6.26.
Nicholls has won four of the last five over the Lumberjacks, including two of three in Nacogdoches in 2014. The Colonels are currently in eighth place in the SLC standings, just ahead of New Orleans (19-27, 8-13 SLC).
