Colonels improve throughout day at Sam Hall Intercollegiate

LIVE SCOREBOARD

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Following a slow start, the Nicholls State University men's golf team finished round one strong before knocking three strokes off of its second-round score, placing 11th after the opening Monday of the Sam Hall Intercollegiate at the Hattiesburg Country Club.

Nicholls saw itself in last out of 13 teams at the conclusion of the first round, but climbed up to 11th after shooting a 291 in the second round. The improvement was led by senior Jack Lee, who had four birdies in the second 18, carding a 1-under 70 and ending the day in a tie for 15th.

"Our start on the front 9 put us a little behind, but we caught up towards the end of the round and were steady in the second," said James Schilling, Nicholls head golf coach. "Improving three shots after playing 18, walking, dealing with the rain and being out there all day; it was a good effort by the team."

Baker Stevenson and Zachary Barrios fired 146s for the day, tying for 37th place. Stevenson shot a 72 and a 74, while Barrios was 2-over in both rounds. Lee was even for the day after a 72 in the first round and is five strokes behind individual leader, Mercer's Stanton Schorr.

Connor Campbell finished the day with a 77-74-151 and Loic Maigret posted an 80-76—156.

The Colonels' team score of 585 place them four strokes behind Winthrop for eighth, and five behind Central Arkansas. Mercer led the field with a 563.
