LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Nicholls State University cross country squads raced through muddy conditions Saturday at the Lake Charles Toyota McNeese Cowboy Stampede at the Enos Darbonne Multisports Complex.
The women placed ninth, tallying 226 points, and the men finished 10
th with 227.
"We had strong races on a tough course due to the puddles and mud, but it was a good opportunity to see a conference venue and see how our fitness compared to several conference opponents we had not raced yet," Nicholls head coach
Stefanie Slekis said. "We have a bit more work to do before the conference meet, but our young team is gaining valuable race experience and I'm excited about how we'll perform when we return here in a month based on the training we've done this past month."
Freshman
Jonathan Hernandez fronted the men for the second consecutive meet, finishing the 4-mile in 22 minutes, 36.7 seconds for 22
nd place. Also scoring for the Colonels were freshmen

The women were spearheaded by freshman

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi won both of the team crowns with four Top-10 finishers on the men's side and five Top-10 placements in the women's field. Islanders runner Allyson Girard won the female individual crown on a 17:15.2, winning easily as second-place performer Gladys Jerotich finished 55 seconds after her. McNeese's Daniel Silva (21:07.7) claimed the men's crown.
The Colonels' next competition is at the UAB Blazer Classic on Oct 12.
