BATON ROUGE – The Nicholls State University men's and women's indoor track and field squads will compete at the LSU Bayou Bengal Friday inside Carl Maddox Field House.
"This is a great opportunity for both our men's and women's team to line up against eight Division I teams, including conference rivals in McNeese State, Southeastern Louisiana, and New Orleans, as well as some tough in-state competitors in UL-Lafayette and UL-Monroe," head coach
Stefanie Slekis said. "I am excited to see where both teams are after almost two solid weeks of training together as a team since classes started on Jan. 22."
This will be the first men's track meet in the last 15 years. The first men's event will be the 60-meter dash scheduled for 2:25 p.m. Participants in the 60m include
Miguel Harris,
Christian Hebert and
Desmond Wilson.
Also competing for the men will be
Eric Brown (400m),
Cameron Carter (800m),
Dane Chance (200m, 400m),
Teril Cooper (800m),
Daniel Figueroa (800m, mile),
Tyler Granger (800m, mile),
Jonathan Hernandez (800m, mile),
Tavaris Howard (200m, 400m),
Barry Sigur (200m, 400m) and
Dustin Worley (3000m). Harris, Hebert and Wilson will also run in the 200m.
The women will commence at 3:30 p.m. as
Lakeisha Taylor and
Troynae Walker will partake in the 60m hurdles. Walker etched her name in the Colonels indoor record book last week as she cleared 4-11 in the high jump and crossed the finish line of the 60m hurdles in 9.58 seconds, ranking seventh and 10th, respectively, in program history.
Junior
Maerys Joseph ran her fastest indoor 400m season opener by 2.5 seconds at 58.36, which is tied for 16th in the Southland Conference.
Other teams attending include host LSU, Grambling, Hinds CC, Lamar, McNeese, Meridian CC, UNO, Northwestern State, Southern, Texas Southern, Tulane, UL-Lafayette and UL-Monroe.
