CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- In a match undecided till the final point, the Nicholls State University volleyball program (10-10, 4-5 Southland) battled throughout a tough road contest at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (13-9, 6-3 Southland) on Thursday evening, ultimately dropping a decisive fifth set to the Islanders by a 15-12 margin after four previous back-and-forth frames.

KEY STORYLINES & STATISTICS (L 2-3)
-- The Red & Gray jumped on the host team early, casually claiming the first set by a 25-14 mark; a tight second set win by A&M-Corpus Christi and a dominant victory of their own in the third pushed the Islanders out front, however, forcing the Colonels to respond with a close win in the fourth (25-22). In the all-deciding fifth, both squads held onto precarious leads, but a late surge by AMCC helped the Islanders claim the match.
-- The sophomore trio of RS Katie Jones (17), OH Emily Gauthreaux (14) & MB Aaliyah Burras (11) propelled the Nicholls offensive engine, combining on the night for 71.2 percent of team's scoring. While all three were relatively active diggers (total 12 between them), both Jones & Burras put together notable blocking performances, accounting for five assisted blocks apiece.
-- Meanwhile, junior S Meghan Wozniak added her usual compilation of solid statistics, racking up 48 assists for the match -- her third highest total of the season -- along with 11 digs, good for the Red & Gray's lone double-double.
-- Defensively, senior L Emily Venable tallied another strong day for the Colonels as well, finishing with a team-high 17 digs.
