THIBODAUX, La. - Nicholls State University defensive lineman Sully Laiche earned a trio of weekly honors for his effort in the Colonels' 34-20 win over rival McNeese last Saturday.
Laiche started Monday by being named Southland Defensive Player of the Week, then followed with an honorable mention for the STATS FCS' defensive award. Later in the evening, Laiche shared the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Defensive Co-Player of the Week.
Laiche led an outstanding defensive showing for the Colonels in the victory over rival McNeese Saturday, recording two sacks and totaling four tackles for loss and seven stops. The senior standout tackle negated 18 yards and helped limit the Cowboys to 236 yards of total offense and a pair of offensive touchdowns. On his second sack of the game and 10th of the season, Laiche was credited with his third forced fumble on the year.
A native of Gramercy, Louisiana, Laiche has been nearly unblockable over the last four games with 29 total tackles, including 12 going for loss with 7.0 sacks. He alone was responsible for -64 yards and forced three fumbles as well.
With one game remaining in the regular season, Laiche leads the FCS in tackles for loss per game (2.1), is third in sacks average (1.11), and sixth in forced fumbles.

Laiche and the Colonels head to Hammond Thursday to take on Southeastern Louisiana for the Southland Conference title.
