Colonels add Preston Whisenhunt to XC, track and field programs

THIBODAUX, La. – Nicholls State University head cross country and track and field coach Stefanie Slekis announced the signing of Marietta High School (Oklahoma) standout Preston Whisenhunt on Wednesday.

"We are thrilled to welcome Preston Whisenhunt to Nicholls," Slekis said. "Preston is a proven champion as a part of the Marietta High School program. The coaches at Marietta have done an exceptional job of developing the young men in their program and continually have strong team success while taking the time to develop each individual. Preston is passionate about cross country and track and field and understands the dedication and work ethic that contribute to success in our sports. He is a huge addition to our young team, and I am excited about the immediate impact he will have on our program next fall."

A standout for the Indians, Whisenhunt rounded out his cross country career by claiming the Lake Country Conference individual crown. He also collected individual conference and regional championships in the 1600m and 3200m.

Whisenhunt helped Marietta to OSSAA 3A cross country and track and field state championships in 2018, placing second at the cross country meet and second and fourth in the 3200m and 1600m, respectively, on the track.
