Colonels go for record day in Barrios’ home finale

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team will play its final home game of the 2018-19 season, as the Colonels take on rival Southeastern Louisiana at 1 p.m. at Stopher Gym.

The finale marks end of the Cassidy Barrios era at Stopher, who will leave as the program's all-time leading scorer. Barrios has 1,928 points for her career, which ranks eighth all-time in the Southland, and needs only seven rebounds to reach 1,000 for her career. Last season, she was named Southland Player of the Year and Tournament MVP as she led Nicholls to its first-ever title and appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

HISTORY IN THE MAKING?
• Nicholls enters the finale with a 19-10 overall record and a 13-4 mark in conference. The Colonels have won 19 games twice in program history, both under head coach DoBee Plaisance, but have never won 20 games. The 13 wins in the Southland also matches the program's most - set in 2014-15.
• The Colonels are 10-1 at home this season. Their previous best in Stopher is 10-2, so a win over Southeastern Louisiana would secure the best home record in school history.
• With six consecutive wins, the Colonels are currently one away from matching the program's longest winning streak. Nicholls has won seven in a row twice under Coach Plaisance, including last year to cap its championship run.

BARRIOS TIDBITS
Cassidy Barrios will make her 122nd start of her career Saturday. She has started every single game since coming to Thibodaux in 2015.
• Barrios not only ranks No. 1 on the Colonels' all-time scoring and blocks lists, but she is second in rebounds, third in steals and is tied for third in assists.
• In the Southland career rankings, Barrios currently ranks in the top 10 in points, double-doubles, free throws made and percentage, and 3-point percentage, and is 11th in steals.
• With 595 points this season, Barrios is just 14 away from setting a new program single-season scoring record. Standout guard Emani White poured in 19.6 points per game to lead the Southland in scoring as a sophomore in 2013-14, finishing with 608 points.
• Barrios is just one of six players in NCAA Division I women's basketball to average 20 points and 10 rebounds. She is the only one of exclusive group to average four assists.

SCOUTING THE LADY LIONS
• Southeastern (9-19, 4-13 SLC) lost its seventh straight game after a 46-45 setback Wednesday against New Orleans. Four of the seven losses have been by five or less points.
• Celica Sterling paces the Lady Lion offense with 13.7 points per game. Charliee Dugas is also averaging double figures at 10.7

DESTINATION KATY
• Sitting at third place in the standings, Nicholls has guaranteed itself one bye in next week's Southland Conference Tournament. A win would lock up the No. 3 seed, matching the program's highest ever, while a loss paired with a win by Abilene Christian would place Nicholls at No. 4. • Nicholls will be making its eighth consecutive appearance in the postseason. The Colonels won the tournament last season as the No. 4 seed for their first championship in school history.
