2019 SCHEDULE
THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University athletic department announced Thursday its kickoff times for the 2019 home football schedule. All five home games are scheduled for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
Nicholls will open the season on the road for the entire month of September before renewing its conference series against Central Arkansas (Oct. 5). The Colonels and Bears last played in 2016 and UCA brings its eight-game winning streak in the series to Thibodaux.
The following weekend will be Family Day with a rivalry matchup against Northwestern State (Oct. 12). Nicholls has won the last three meetings against NSU, including a 28-10 win in Natchitoches in 2018.
Abilene Christian (Oct. 26) heads to Thibodaux for just the second time and will serve as the Colonels' Homecoming opponent. In the brief two-game series against ACU, both teams have defended its home turf. The Colonels won in Thibodaux in 2017, 29-20, while ACU took last year's matchup in Abilene, 28-12.
Nicholls hosts HBU on Nov. 9 and will look to extend its winning streak in the series to five games. Two years ago in John L. Guidry Stadium, the Colonels took out the Huskies on a game-winning 44-yard touchdown catch by
Dai'Jean Dixon from
Chase Fourcade as time expired.
The home finale pits the Red and Gray against rival McNeese (Nov. 16). The Colonels also had a thrilling finish in the last meeting against the Cowboys in Thibodaux in '17, winning 37-35 on a field goal in the final seconds.
