TEMPE, Ariz. - The Nicholls State University men's and women's tennis teams and nine of its student-athletes were recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for their outstanding work in the classroom for the 2018-19 academic year.

Both squads received the ITA All-Academic Team award, which is given to teams that sport a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above, inclusive of all letterwinners over the fall and spring semesters. The men's team had a 3.72 GPA while the women posted a 3.26.

A total of nine Colonels were named to the ITA Scholar-Athlete list, which includes student-athletes with a GPA of at least 3.5 and have been at their school for at least two semesters. Represent the men's teams were Tobias Lentz (4.0 GPA), Alvaro Barranco Vilaltella (3.8), Moritz Borges (3.6), Lewis Cox (3.75), Nestor Giribet Lopez (4.0), Eduardo Marino (4.0), and Oleksandr Podgursky (3.54).

For the women, Stephanie Barnett (4.0 GPA) and Daphne Haverkamp (3.59) made the list.

"I'm always proud of our kids. We ask a lot out of our student-athletes and not only do they perform at the highest level at Division I, but they also manage to excel at the highest level in the classroom," said Greg Harkins, Nicholls tennis head coach. "With our programs, year after year I'm always proud of their effort and how they represent as student-athletes."
