Colonels reach No. 9 in Coaches Poll; No. 13 in STATS FCS

TOP 25 POLLS

THIBODAUX, La. – Following its first win of 2019, the Nicholls State University football team climbed up No. 9 in the AFCA Coaches Top 25 Poll, which is its highest ranking in recorded history.

Nicholls entered the weekend at No. 11 but moved up to 9 after receiving 396 points. In the STATS FCS Poll, the Colonels slid down one spot from No. 12 to 13.

The Colonels have been nationally ranked in at least one of the two major polls in each week since the start of October in 2017. The previous high for the program was No. 10, which the program first obtained after defeating Kansas in the opener last season.

Nicholls is one of three Southland schools in the top 25, joined by the Central Arkansas Bears (No. 12/14), who the Colonels host for their home opener on Oct. 5, and Southeastern Louisiana (No. 23/21). Four teams are also receiving votes, including HBU which garnered votes for the first time in school history.

UP NEXT
Nicholls will head back to Texas to begin its Southland Conference title defense with a matchup at Stephen F. Austin on Sept. 21. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the game will air on ESPN+.
