HAMMOND, La. – After a quick one-game home stand, the Nicholls State University women's basketball shifts focus to the frontend of a two-game roadtrip, taking a quick trek north to Hammond, La. for a battle against rival Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday, Jan. 11, tipoff set for 1 p.m.
The Colonels (3-11, 0-5 SLC) continue to search for their first conference victory of the season, dropping three tight contests thus far including a rim-out game-winner at UIW in the 2020 opener. Earlier this week, the Red & Gray nearly ousted a tough Lamar squad in the team's return to Stopher, falling by just six (84-78) in a back-and-forth shootout.
Despite the recent losses, senior post player
Chrystal Ezechukwu continues to be a force down low, scoring 16 points at both UIW and Sam Houston State before racking up 13 against Lamar. As such, the Georgia native's 11.3 ppg average continues to inch closer to the fellow senior
Airi Hamilton (11.6), who has led the offense all season.
Southeastern Louisiana (5-9, 2-3 SLC) aims to close out a three-game home stretch on a high note against Nicholls, having split the previous two including a win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (48-44) and a loss to Sam Houston State (84-69). Against SHSU, the Lady Lions entered the break up by one point, but two consecutive explosive quarters from the Bearkats (outscored SLU by 16 in the second half) sealed the loss for Southeastern.
Statistically, only Celica Sterling (13.4 ppg) and Jyar Francis (11.3 ppg) own averages in double digits while Caitlyn Williams paces the Lady Lions on the glass (5.9 rpg).
