THIBODAUX, La. – Nicholls State University women's basketball will play six nonconference games in addition to a 16-game Southland Conference slate, as the program announced Tuesday its 2020-21 schedule.
 
With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the NCAA pushed back the start of college basketball a few weeks to Wednesday, November 25. Nicholls will begin its season on that day at Tulane University. 
 
"We are truly blessed to be able to have a season this year," said DoBee Plaisance, Nicholls women's basketball head coach. "As always, I give praise to the Lord Jesus Christ, and I can't say enough great things about our administration. Jonathan Terrell and his staff have gone above and beyond in regard to making sure we even have a season.  I'm so happy for our players to have the chance to compete. They have worked extremely hard to get to this point, making so many sacrifices during these challenging times."
 
Following the short trip to New Orleans, the Colonels will make their Stopher Gymnasium debut on Wednesday, Dec. 2 against Mobile. The final home game of 2020 is scheduled for Dec. 12 against Jackson State. Other nonconference games include road contests against South Alabama (Dec. 5), Southern Miss (Dec. 8), and Alabama A&M (Dec. 30).
 
The Colonels won their final seven Southland Conference games last season to clinch their ninth consecutive trip to the SLC Tournament before it was canceled due to the pandemic. Nicholls will begin its quest for another postseason appearance on Jan. 2 at home against Sam Houston State.
 
Notable home games in January include matchups against in-state rivals Southeastern Louisiana (Jan. 9), Northwestern State (Jan. 13), and New Orleans (Jan. 23). 
 
February will be road-heavy as five of the seven games are away from home. The regular season will then conclude on March 3 in Thibodaux against McNeese. 
 
Tipoff times will be added to the 2020-21 schedule as they are announced. Dates and times will be subject to change throughout the season.

Season tickets are now available by visiting Nicholls Ticket Central or calling the ticket office at 985-448-4790. New this season, fans have the option to purchase the Geaux BIG RED ticket package which will cover all home basketball, football, and baseball games.
