THIBODAUX, La. - Fresh off its first victory of the season, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team will take on its second-straight Mobile based program as the Colonels head to South Alabama for a nonconference matchup Saturday, Dec. 5. Tipoff in the Mitchell Center is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Nicholls won its home opener Wednesday against the University of Mobile, 81-53, behind a strong defensive effort against the Lady Rams. The Colonels totaled 20 steals in the victory and had solid showings on the offensive end by sophomores
Adrian Mann (18 points) and
Chelsea Cain (15), and junior
Chyna Allen (15).Â
The Colonels were productive in transition, using the steals to generate fastbreak points.
Anna McKendree, who racked up 10 assists to go along with eight points and five steals, was a key factor in a 24-0 margin in fastbreak points.Â
South Alabama enters the matchup after a close loss to Tulane, 77-74. Both Nicholls and USA are 1-1 on the season with their win/loss coming against the same programs. South Alabama defeated Mobile, 70-40, in its season opener.
Nicholls will look to continue its winning streak in the series, which is currently sitting at two games. The teams played in back-to-back years in 2013 and '14 as the Colonels sank 13 3-pointers in a 68-60 on the road, then followed up with a 66-62 win behind 14 points from freshman
Tia Charles.Â
