Colonels clinch six program records, finish strong at McNeese

LAKE CHARLES, La. -- Competing for just the second time this season, the Nicholls State University track & field program compiled yet-another notable series of individual performances, closing out the McNeese Indoor Invite with 14 new personal records -- not to mention six ranked inside the school's all-time top 10 -- at the Ralph O. Ward Recreation Center in Lake Charles, La.

Coincidentally, the strong overall finish nearly mirrors the Red & Gray's indoor season kickoff earlier this month at the LSU Purple Tiger, where the team also snapped six school marks behind just eight personal bests.

KEY STORYLINES & FINISHES
-- The Colonels secured 14 new personal marks while at the McNeese Indoor Invite, including: Hailey Alcorn in the high jump (4-09.00) and the 400m dash (59.19); Amiya Matthews in both the shot put (30-07.3) and the long jump (17-05.75); Omo Oboh in the 400m dash (57.83); Skyler Goodman in the 600m run (1:55.23); Kiara Bethley in the 200m dash (25.93); Elsa Rijpstra in the one mile run (5:23.29); Myah Robichaux in the 3,000m run (11:33.94); Cameron Carter in the 800m run (2:02.62); Jerrian Brown in the 800m run (2:06.84); Octavio Vasquez-Tilley in both 800m (2:02.64) and one mile runs (4:37.18); and Dustin Worley in the 3,000m run (9:14.28).
-- All together, six marks cracked the program's all-time top ten lists, including: Goodman in the 600m, moving into the No. 10 overall slot; the sophomore duo of Oboh and Alcorn sliding into the fourth and 10th spots, respectively, in the 400m (although Alcorn immediately falls off due to Oboh displacing fifth through ninth); Matthews moving up to seventh in the long jump and 10th for the shot put, continuing the exceptional start to her freshman season; and finally, Alcorn capturing ninth all-time in the high jump.
-- In terms of placements, Nicholls closed out the meet with 24 finishes inside the top ten, including: Bethley notching second 200m dash; Matthews posting fifth in the 200m dash, eighth in the shot put and ninth in both the 400m dash and the long jump; Keiondra Narcisse grabbing sixth in the 200m dash; Oboh picking up first in the 400m dash; Alcorn capturing fifth in the 400m dash along with seventh (tied) in the high jump; Eleana Callejas notching third in 800m run; Rijpstra scoring fourth in both the 800m and one-mile runs; Goodman picking up fifth in the 800m run; Summer Seal grabbing sixth in the 800m run; Lauren Graham posting ninth in the mile run; Robichaux capturing ninth in the 3,000m run; Troynae Walker finishing first -- not to mention .02m off her personal best -- in the high jump; Chelsea Harrington wrapping up sixth in the long jump; the women's relay team -- Oboh, Alcorn, Briana Land & Anginique Andrews -- grabbing a second overall in the 4x400m competition; Eric Brown posting eighth in the 400m dash; Carter picking up third in the 800m run along with ninth in the 600m run; Vasquez-Tilley notching sixth in the 800m run; and, Brown scoring seventh in the 800m run.
