Johnson secures first-ever SLC Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas -- Monday afternoon, the Southland Conference announced Nicholls State University junior Kevin Johnson as the league's Men's Basketball Player of the Week, a first for both the program this season and the third-year starter.

The Thibodaux native paced the Colonels on the scoreboard throughout both contests this week, initially dropping 13 points in a close loss at league leader Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday night before blowing his previous career-high out of the water in a massive victory over Sam Houston State on Saturday afternoon, registering 33 points behind a near-perfect 18-of-22 from the charity stripe.

Overall, Johnson composed one of best two-game stretches of his young career, averaging 23.0 points along with four assists in each matchup. Notably, the junior finished shooting nearly 70 percent from the field (11-of-16), including a pinpoint 50.0 percent from beyond the arc (4-of-8), and just over 90 percent at the free throw line (20-of-22).
